Frankenmuth hosts first-ever Community Wide Read Program Frankenmuth has organized a One Book...One Community read event. This is a community-wide program designed to promote reading, literacy and libraries. Furthermore, the program hopes to encourage Frankenmuth and its neighboring communities to share a common interest and thus to ensue a bond through reading and discussing a single book.

The novel "Pay it Forward" by Catherine-Ryan Hyde has been chosen as Frankenmuth's initial read for adults and "Kindness is Cooler, Mrs. Ruler" by Margery Cuyler has been chosen for young children. And young readers can choose selections from the original text for grades 5-8 and grades 3-4.

All four works parrot the Golden Rule theme inspiring a goodwill chain of events.

Frankenmuth's One Book...One Community is modeled after other successful literacy-reach programs throughout the country including Lansing, Saginaw, Philadelphia and Baton Rouge. The One Book...One Community will run July 1 through September 30, 2009. Happenings and gatherings will follow through November, 2009. Events include round-table book discussions, a movie and popcorn night and photo and essay contests. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to volunteer at good deed functions endorsing the novel's "Think Globally, Act Locally" thesis scheduled throughout October and November.

The One Book...One Community committee needs help marketing the event to residents, so your help in promoting and selling the books would be greatly appreciated.

If your business would be interested in selling copies of "Pay it Forward" and "Kindness is Cooler, Mrs. Ruler" please contact Karen Zehnder at kzehnder@bavarianinn.com for wholesale pricing information. A $2.00 donation per book sold will be given to Frankenmuth's Wickson District Library.

Copies of the books will be available to check-out at the Frankenmuth Wickson District Library as well as the two companion books: a children's picture book "Kindness is Cooler, Mrs. Ruler" by Margery Cuyler and the two selections of "Pay it Forward" for young readers.

Frankenmuth's One Book...One Community is sponsored by the Frankenmuth Wickson District Library and Frankenmuth Community Foundation.
