Digging into a turkey leg is definitely one of the highlights of this festival!
Mid Michigan Renaissance Festival located between Frankenmuth and Vassar on Frankenmuth Road is excited to announce their Second Season of this great festival. October 10 - November 1, 2009, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday Only, Rain or Shine!
The focus of the Mid Michigan Renaissance Festival is on King Henry VIII's marriage to Anne Von Cleves. The story began in 1539. After Hans Holbein was summoned to paint portraits of Anne and her sister Amelia. Hans was asked not to flatter the sisters when painting their portraits. When Henry reviewed the portraits, he ended up choosing Anne. In March 1539 negotiations began to court Anne. Cromwell oversaw the talks and a marriage treaty was signed October 4th. Though Anne wasn't brought up with cultural sophistication, which was Henry's desire in a bride, he learned to appreciate her ability in needlework and her love of playing card games.
This is where we at MMRF has taken the story to a new level. The festival focuses on King Henry and Anne's relationship. The two have decided to come to Anne's home region of Cleves. They came to Cleves to enjoy the local festivities hosted by Duke of Cleves.

Toni Knoll and her son Vincent own the almost 50 acres of land that this wonderful event takes place on. Back in the woods you can see the Castle facade and ticket booth, both painted by a family member of the Knoll's. Though they are not avid Renaissance attendees, their partners (husband and wife) Chuck and Wendy Hough are. Toni and Vince are learning more and more about the Renaissance Community and very much enjoy being apart of it.
For several years Chuck and Wendy H. (aka Lord Dark Wolf and Lady Gwyndolyn) have been attending Renaissance Festivals and talking to the merchants, staff, entertainers, playtrons and patrons. Listening closely to the complaints and compliments on how these festivals are run. Having each person that they talk to tell them what their "ideal" festival would be. Taking all of this information and in their minds and hearts building a Renaissance Festival that would fulfill all of the dreams and desires of the merchants, staff, entertainers, playtrons and patrons. Without them, there is NO FAIRE!!!
Knowing that they themselves want the focus to be on FAMILY, Chuck and Wendy began two special events in Frankenmuth Michigan called the End of Season Renaissance Gathering (November), and the New Years Eve Renaissance Masque (December). The idea of both gatherings was to once again bring their Renaissance Family and Friends together in the celebration of the "Love of Faire". At the same time, being able to bring new people into the large circle of family and friends in hopes that, they too, would fall in love with the Renaissance Festival.
After sharing the thoughts of Chuck and Wendy H.'s dream with a Frankenmuth business owner, that set into motion the steps to making their dreams a reality. The business owner spoke with a few other local Frankenmuth residents telling them of the dream and talked of how to make this dream happen in the number one tourist town in Michigan. The first local contacted was Vincent K. Vincent has had much contact with local business and has attended and been involved in Frankenmuth events his whole life. After speaking with Vincent, Toni K., Vincent's mother was contacted. Toni owns a large piece of property in Tuscola, Michigan. The combine force of this group of people brought the dream to an instant reality.
Once everybody had shared their thoughts of making this dream a reality, Vincent and Toni approached the Tuscola Township Planning Commission to obtain their blessing to move forward this event The Planning Commission received idea with open arms, and the Mid Michigan Renaissance Festival was officially born. Mid Michigan Renaissance Festival is bound to be one of the largest and most successful Renaissance Festivals in the USA.
The Mid Michigan Renaissance festival wants to keep in mind the wants, dreams and desires of the Renaissance merchants, staff, entertainers and playtrons. They all have joined together to make the dreams of everyone come true. This fall, the dream of Mid Michigan Renaissance Festival will come true.
Chuck and Wendy Hough are from Dearborn, Michigan and have been attending Renaissance Festivals for many years. Chuck and Wendy, along with their "rennie family" have worked hard along side the Knolls to make this festival the best that it can be.
"Creating a German theme with an English twist has been one of the highlights of making this happen. And with wonderful support from the communities of Vassar, Frankenmuth and Tuscola Township, we know that we are going to be able to grow," said the Hough's.
The Festival dates are October 10 - November 1, 2009, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, weekends only, rain or shine. Group discounts and season passes are available. Theme weekends: Oct 10 & 11 - Myths and Legends, Oct 17 & 18 - Celtic Celebration, Oct 24 & 25 - Pirates & Pints, Oct 31 & Nov 1 - Haunted Hollows.
A special weekend for the youth is the Haunted Hollows weekend. All children dressed in their costumes get in FREE with a paid adult. The youth will also be able to go from merchant to merchant and from cast member to cast member trick-or-treating. Last year this was a huge hit and we look forward to it being even better this year.
New this season is the addition of the Golden Gryffon Pub. It is a Beer, Wine and Mead tent being furnished and manned by VOICE, Inc. A non-profit organization for the hearing impaired out of Saginaw. There will also be great entertainment in the new Pub with "The Gutterpups" a very popular Celtic Rock band and Robyn Wyldwood (aka Robyn the Bard). And alas, you never know who else might show up to do some entertaining.

Adult tickets are $9.00. Children ages 6 - 12 are $7.00. Children ages 5 and under are FREE.
