The Real Clear Politics (RCP) Michigan Republican Presidential Primary poll announced today shows Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon from Ohio, at 24 percent support, billionaire developer Donald Trump at 22, and former Florida governor Jeb Bush lagging at 8 percent.

The Michigan presidential primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8, 2016 while the general election is to be held Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016.

As of today the RCP website still is featuring a one-minute video of GOP candidate Scott Walker of Wisconsin touting him as a "winner" and his "record of success" even though Walker has dropped out of the race, citing money problems.

(NOTE: Even as I was writing this article, the Walker ad disappeared from the RCP website.)

The rest of the Republican field in the RCP Michigan poll shows Carly Fiorina 3, Marco Rubio 4, Ted Cruz 3, Mike Huckabee 6, John Kasich 2, Walker 2, Chris Christie 1, Rand Paul 2, Rick Santorum 0, Bobby Jindal 0.

While President Obama's job approval is from 3-5 percent under water in Michigan, Congress takes a bath at 11 percent approval and 66 percent disapproval.

The direction of the country ranges from 57 to 61 percent on the wrong track.

Carson, 64, who was born in Detroit, announced his candidacy there last May. Carson was the first surgeon to successfully separate conjoined twins joined at the head. In 2008, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush. Carson, a Yale University graduate, received his medical degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Carson, who has written eight books, had a tumultuous boyhood in Detroit and reportedly nearly killed a friend with a knife in an argument over a radio station. No doubt his life story, which is remarkable for its success, will soon receive a nationwide airing in the media.

Meanwhile, Politico reports that Rand Paul won the straw poll at the Mackinac Island Republican Leadership Conference last weekend, calling the win: "a show of organizational strength for a candidate who has seen his presidential hopes fade."

According to Politico: "Paul led with 22 percent, followed by Carly Fiorina with 15 percent, John Kasich with 13 percent, and Ted Cruz with 12 percent. Trailing them were Jeb Bush with 9 percent, Marco Rubio with 8 percent, and Donald Trump with 6 percent.

"Ben Carson received 5 percent and Scott Walker finished with 2 percent."
