Former champions Lucie Hradecka, Lauren Davis and last year's winner Tatjana Maria, are already in the draw for the 28th Dow Corning Tennis Classic that begins Jan. 31.
Featuring players from around the world and many of the rising stars of American tennis, the tourney has a range of community activities as well as on-court action from top women players.
Saturday, January 30th everyone is invited to play a little tennis before the pros take to
the courts on Sunday. "Come on out and have some fun!" said Sharon Cleland, Tournament Director, "there's something for everyone and all are free."
The High School Play Day presented by MidMichigan Health kicks off at noon with two
sessions, one 12-3 pm and the other 2-5 pm. High school players will train on court
with touring pros and tennis center teaching pros, learn about off court training from
MidMichigan Health trainers and enjoy a pizza lunch.
The Kids Fun Day sponsored by The Dow Chemical Company runs 5:30-7 pm and features activities for preschoolers through 8th grade as well as adults. "Let's get on the court and play, beginners and experienced players welcome," said Sharon, "you might even get to meet Tennis the Menace our tennis mascot."
Catch the pros in action starting Sunday, January 31st at 10 am with the opening rounds
of the qualifier tournament. Thirty-two players compete for four spots in the main
tournament and its free and open to the public. Free viewing continues daily 10 am
until mid-afternoon through Friday, February 5th.
Tickets available for feature matches February 2-7 with prices ranging from $12 for
general admission to $45 for premium seats that include fine dining and drinks.
