2016 Unsung Heros Honored by Optimist
The Bay City Noon Rotary Club was the guests of the Bay City Noon Optimist last Tuesday as the Optimist honored local middle school and high school students as this year's
Unsung Heros.
The students were nominated by teachers at each of eighteen schools. A short fact sheet about each student was read, outlining the reasons they were nominated and how they had made a difference. Each was presented with a certificate.
Prior to the awards, Optimist Michigan District Governor Steve Sucher addressed the combined clubs. Following his remarks State Trooper D.J. Lapan, a former Unsung Hero recipient himself, spoke briefly about his life, the reason he was given the Unsung Hero award, and about his continuing commitment to the community.
The Rotarians thank the Optimist for including our club and giving us the opportunity to meet the young Heros, listen to their stories, and honor them for their achievement.
CLUB NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS
The club held its monthly board meeting one week late to accommodate scheduling. The meeting was relatively short as it preceded the joint meeting with the Optimist.
It was noted that the sub-committee discussing the meeting venue will meet again soon with hopes of making a recommendation by the end of March.
Rotary Rocks "Birds Of A Feather" planning continues. Keep April 28 on your calendar!
Andrea Hales still needs a second family to
host our exchange student for the Spring school session. She also says that the exchange for next year is being scheduled now and she needs a first host family on file so they can get busy on obtaining a passport.
A small number of
dues invoices have yet to be paid. If you are one of that number, please attend to this matter soon. Payment will be greatly appreciated as the club needs to make its payment to Rotary International.
