It was a rainy day on June 16. But the rain cleared in time to dedicate the Grand Opening of the Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy's new Discovery Playground. Located at the Discovery Preserve at 1701 S. Euclid Ave, in Bay City, the playground at the entrance of the Discovery Preserve offers a hands-on way for our young naturalists to enjoy nature in a way they understand.

Zack Branigan, Executive Director of the Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy, did the thank you speech for all those who contributed to the playground before the ribbon cutting opened the park to the anxious observers just itching to try out the park. Even Lou E Loon had to join in the fun much to the delight of all the children who were there. The park has an Explorers Cabin, large fallen trees with bark removed and climbing footings, rocks to leap from and a musical box that the children dump scoops of pebbles into over metal pipes creating musical tones to name a few.

Major contributors were the Dow Corning Donor Advised Fund at BACF, the Bay City Noon Optimist, Michigan Baseball Foundation and the Saginaw Bay Watershed.

Plans to expand are in the works but this is a great way to burn off a little energy before taking the young ones on the nature trails to see some magnificent sights and birds in our backyard.
