Sage Democrats say their strategy should be to stand back and let the elephants charge over the cliff; why keep them from self destruction?
Democrats are still reeling -- and will be for some time -- from the disastrous Hillary Clinton campaign for President in which her team snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, with a little help from the FBI Director James Comey and perhaps the Russians.
So how does the "loyal opposition" party move forward and retain its composure when faced with the incessant tweets of Mr. Trump, who grabs all the headlines and sucks all the oxygen out of the room in a political sense.
Is Trump the savviest media manipulator ever, or has he broken the first law of politics: never pick a fight with somebody who buys ink by the barrel and paper by the ton? (i.e., the media)

The trouble with that is they take the entire country with them; we all lose under a blundering tweet master who inflames every minor situation. God knows what damage will be done to our foreign policy in the first 100 days of a Trump White House, Dems moan.
There's always the next election, even if some Republicans achieve what Capitol Hill sources say is their goal: impeach Trump for constitutional violations over his business entanglements and install the vice president, Mike Pence, to right the ship of state.

But what can possibly change to convince the angry American voters one party is any better than the other; how can our lives be improved if we don't trust anybody in Washington and anything they say?
Top Democrats have begun plotting to alter the gerrymandered landscape that has put them in the minority, in a hole so deep they can't climb out even if a rope is thrown down to them.
We now know the daunting new job Barack Obama has taken on for himself after he leaves office Jan. 20 upon the inauguration of Donald J. Trump as President.
Obama and other top Democratic party officials were alerted and galvanized by statements like the following reported by Stuart Rothenburg in Roll Call, an influential Capitol Hill newsletter:
"Before redistricting had even begun, Republicans were optimistic they would gain additional seats, or, as former Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie put it, that they would 'gain or protect' 15 to 25 seats. - See more at: http://www.rollcall.com/issues/56_138/Redistricting-Bottom-Line-Might-Surprise-You-206422-1.html#sthash.CrNdFftX.dpuf
We know now that didn't happen: the GOP lost seats in both the House and Senate, even while keeping their slim majorities. So, for the Dems, that was a little light at the end of the tunnel
A massive Democratic effort will be mounted by Democrats against Republican legislative majorities created by gerrymandering, according to Mr. Obama, who will be pulling strings on the project.
Eric Holder, outgoing attorney general, will head the effort and one of its advisers will be a former Michigan gubernatorial candidate.
"We're developing a comprehensive, unified plan that represents tactically the way we increase Democratic power in the next redistricting that's state specific," said Mark Schauer, a former Michigan congressman and failed 2014 candidate for governor who's serving as a senior adviser to the group. "By 2017, we'll speak with one voice under the auspices of the NDRC to big donors around the country, pointing them to the best ways to impact redistricting."
Politico reported some of the details: "The new group, called the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, was developed in close consultation with the White House. President Barack Obama himself has now identified the group -- which will coordinate campaign strategy, direct fundraising, organize ballot initiatives and put together legal challenges to state redistricting maps -- as the main focus of his political activity once he leaves office."
Kelly Ward, director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, told The Hill: "It's because people realize that the time is now, Democrats need to build up from the states, and we also need to take the rigged power out of the hands of the Republicans.
"They have spent years constructing the system so it works in their favor. Until we can undo that, we will be limited in our ability to really fix the system overall."
So stay tuned for more adventures: will Trump self-destruct and be impeached? Will the U.S. blunder into a foreign policy morass, even a war? Will the Dems take back legislative power in 2018 and the Presidency in 2020?
We may be on the verge of witnessing the greatest drama ever told. Let's hope it doesn't give us nightmares for decades to come.
