Residents in four mid-Michigan counties, Bay, Midland, Isabella, and Gladwin plus the Saginaw Chippewa Nation are eligible to be considered for federal assistance for damages caused by the late June flooding. Citizens must first register with FEMA. People who reported their damages to county governments are not in the FEMA /SBA system until they register with FEMA. The deadline to register is October 2nd.

To register: Call 800 621-3362 or go online at: Disasterassistance.gov

Once people register they will get a call from a FEMA inspector who will make an appointment to visit their home and inspect the damages. On a case-by-case basis citizens with uninsured losses may get FEMA grants which do not have to be paid.

These funds can be used for temporary home repairs to make the home safe, secure and functional. Also for temporary rental housing assistance.

FEMA and the SBA have opened four Disaster Recovery Centers, locations where people can talk to FEMA and SBA representatives face-to-face, have their questions answered, follow up on the status of their registrations.

A Disaster Recovery Center is now open in Bay County to help residents through the assistance process after damages and losses suffered during the severe storms and flooding that occurred on June 22 - 27, 2017. Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) are at the center to answer questions about disaster assistance and low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters, and businesses. They can also help survivors apply for federal disaster assistance.

The following location will be serving as a Disaster Recovery Center:

Bay County

Bay City Town Center

4101 E. Wilder Road

Bay City, MI 48706

The Disaster Recovery Center hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The center is closed on Sundays.

More centers will open as sites are identified. It is not necessary to visit a center to register for and receive federal disaster assistance. If possible, survivors should register with FEMA before visiting a recovery center. Residents in Bay, Gladwin, Midland and Isabella counties, including the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe in Isabella County, can register for assistance by the following methods:

1. Register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or through the FEMA App.

2. Call 800-621-3362. TTY users can call 800-462-7585. Those who use 711 or Video Relay Services can call 800-621-3362 to register. Multilingual operators are available (press 2 for Spanish).

Below are the addresses of the three other Centers.

All are open 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday until further notice.
