On November 11th, 2018 at 11 am, the
Friends of Pine Ridge Cemetery will host a remembrance of the signing of the Armistice which brought WWI to an end.
This program was conceived by our volunteer Carlo Lamberti. Carlo cares for the section of Pine Ridge Cemetery which contains the memorial stone of Corporal Lloyd Harding, who was one of the last soldiers to die in WW1.
Harding was killed in action on October 9th in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive which was a major part of the final Allied offensive of World War 1 that stretched along the entire Western Front. It was fought from September 26, 1918 until the Armistice of November 11th 1918, a total of 47 days. The Meuse-Argonne Offensive was the largest in United States military history, involving 1.2 million American soldiers. It was one of a series of Allied attacks known as the Hundred Days Offensive, which brought the war to an end.
Lloyd Harding is buried in France at the Meuse-Argonne Cemetery. The local memorial in Pine Ridge Cemetery was placed here in his memory. His parents are buried near by.
Please join us on
the 11th day of the 11th month at 11 am to remember the end of WW1 and to also remember what was sacrificed by local soldiers and their families.
