Friday night featured two teams that are in the throes of re-establishing their programs. Having lost most of their offensive production to graduation, Pinconning is in the process of reconstructing their attack. All Saints went through a rebuilding process last year and has been ready to take the next step this year. Under second year coach TJ Newsham, the Cougars entered the game having won three of their last four games utilizing a full team approach. Utilizing the most out of a deep bench, the Cougars dominated the Spartans by running away with a 61-46 victory.

Using a full court press coupled with an aggressive, push it up the court offense, the Cougars blitz out to a fast 10-2 lead. Their press also transitioned into a high pressure defense that created problems for Pinconning. The pressure kept the Spartans from getting their offense going as the Cougars created multiple turnovers that translated into quick baskets. By the time the first quarter dust settled, the Cougars had built a 16-8 lead.

All Saints constant defensive pressure kept giving Pinconning fits to start the second quarter. The relentless ball hawking kept the Pinconning guards high and well away from the basket preventing Pinconning from getting good percentage shots. On the offensive side, All Saints looked to run the ball down court on every chance. This opened up several lay up opportunities as well as finding a teammate slashing to the basket.

As the period progressed, Pinconning found a way to break the press by driving down the sidelines. This opened up the middle for lay ups and quality jumpers. Senior forward Anthony Maillette sparked the resurgence with strong presence underneath. The inside play helped the Spartans pull back from a 20 point deficit to pull within 13 points by the half, trailing the Cougars 36-23.

Both teams started the second half with cold shooting touches. The Cougars constant defensive pressure continued to create turnovers and fast break opportunities. All Saints Josh Dorian was the catalyst for the attack by helping create the turnovers on the defensive end then leading the offensive charge with a bucket or a dish to an awaiting teammate. Pinconning responded by running with them thus finding baskets of their own. For a while these created a back and forth contest. All Saints deep usage of their bench gave them the late advantage as they increased their half time lead by eight, finishing the period ahead by a score of 54-33.

All Saints continued their inside assault to start the final period. This created more high percentage shots to hold a 20 point lead to start. Pinconning looked to the perimeter for a comeback run. Junior Brandon Craven sank some long jumpers to help the Spartan cause. Coupled with fellow junior Brenden Vieau, the two helped lead the Spartans charge. But the game was well in hand as the Cougars left Pinconning with a 61-46 win.
