Friends and Fans of the Canadian show Vinyl Cafe, heard weekly on Delta College Public Radio Q-90.1, filled the State Theatre to capacity Friday night to hear Stuart McLean and friends live on stage.

McLean brought his beloved stories of Dave and Morley, and their pets and family, to the live performance. The stories were interspersed with live music from three of his musician friends. Dennis Pendrith played double bass, John Sheard was on keyboards, and special guest Harry Manx performed on various guitars including an Indian model with more strings that you could count.

For those who listen on the radio but have not seen McLean in person, his animated way of telling stories was a treat. He brought Dave to life with just the right gestures and body language. His sense of timing and pauses is well known to the radio audience.

Everyone had fun when McLean chose a 12 year old and an eight year old from the audience to help him give our a few prizes. John Sheard, pianist, producer and arranger, has been with the Vinyl Cafe for years. During one of the musical breaks he played his well loved medley of 33 movie themes in four minutes. Everyone tried to count but most only came close.

McLean performed in Saginaw a couple of year ago. Many in the audience had seen that performance. The Bay City date was special because of the intimacy of the State Theatre. After the performance McLean and the musicians hung around at the front to meet audience members and sign autographs.
