The Bay City City Commission approved a 12-year Industrial Facilities Tax Exemption Certificate for Michigan Brand's investment of $366,145 in new equipment for their meat packing facility.

Michigan Brand, 1313 S. Farragut St., is a manufacturer of jerky, sausage, and ham products sold throughout Michigan.

The mbjerky.com website features the Famous Jerky line of beef, turkey, buffalo, elk, and venison.

The firm features Shelf-Stable Jerky and Michigan Brand Ham cured with brown sugar and Upper Peninsula maple syrup in the Fall and Winter seasons.

Mike Grillo, President of Michigan Brand, plans to create four to five new positions and retain 11 positions as a result of this project.

"We take pride in a long-standing tradition of quality and dependability of serving the finest smoked meats in Michigan, and now reaching throughout the United States," said Mr. Grillo. "Our 50-year-old recipe is hard to beat. Our seven years in business have made us the leader in beef jerky, turkey jerky, venison jerky, and elk jerky sales across Michigan. Now with Internet Technology you too can taste and order quality smoked meats vacuum packed daily, FDA inspected, and U.S.D.A. Approved shipped "Right to your Front Door."

"We are extremely pleased to see the Michigan Brand continue to grow and create additional new jobs in Bay City," stated Patti Stowell, City Economic Development Marketing Manager.

New taxable value of $139,135 will be added to the abatement assessment roll. New city property tax from the investment will be $1,484 and the same amount abated by the city in the first year under the 50 percent tax abatement. Other taxing entities would share $1,490 of new taxes and collectively exempt $1,490 in the abatement's first year.
