Saginaw, Michigan.

Music.

But I repeat myself--the two are nearly synonymous.

Why? Because an impressive number of Saginaw area musicians and composers have gone on to national and international fame in a variety of genres.

For example, Gerald Marks co-wrote an American classic, "All of Me." Danny Russo, cowrote another gem, "Toot, Toot, Tootsie, Goodbye." Isham Jones led one of the most popular orchestras in the country in the 1920s. Jazz legend Sonny Stitt likewise hailed from Saginaw, as did the legendary Stevie Wonder and Motown Orchestra leader, Chocker Campbell.

The book includes about 185 archival photos dating back to 1911 up to the 1950s.

The majority of these have never been published. The book will occupy a valuable niche in the history of American Music by shining a light on a creative community until now largely overlooked by historians and authors.

Anyone interested in American music will find this newly uncovered material fascinating.

The first 100 people who buy the book get a bonus CD of two concerts; one from 1944 at the Rolling Green Club and the other in 1956 at Pit & Balcony Theater, with a bonus track from 1928. All Saginaw musicians.

There will be a book signing at the Savoy Bar & Grill at 127 S Franklin St., in downtown Saginaw, MI on Monday, August 11 from noon to 4 p.m. with live music by Eastside Mike.

This is an important book on the history of music in Saginaw, Michigan, and its influence on the music of the United States and beyond. Anyone interested in American music will find this newly uncovered material fascinating.

The cost of the book which includes a CD (limited edition - 1st 100) is $30 + $4 for shipping [$34 total].
