Bay City's rising stage star, soprano Katie Travis, has won plaudits from some Broadway insiders as "the best Christine ever" for her performance "Phantom of the Opera" in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

The production now in Orlando at the Walt Disney Theatre is drawing critics' raves as "breathtaking and bigger and better than ever before."

New Phantom tour star Chris Mann just posted the first official photo of he and co-star Katie Travis as 'The Phantom' and 'Christine' onstage.

Katie Travis has performed principal roles at The MUNY (LES MISERABLES, Cosette), Fireside Theater, Liederkranz Opera Theater and was a 2014 winner of the Lys Symonette Award (Lotte Lenya Competition).

A native of Bay City and graduate of Central High, Katie is a versatile soprano equally at home singing operetta through contemporary musical theater. She began performing in Youth Theatre at the Bay City Players and starred in productions at Central and Central Michigan University.

A graduate of CMU, Katie is passionate about global music education. In the fall of 2012, she spent time teaching music in Ghana at The Beacon House School, an orphanage for children in Accra. And, in June she completed a marathon in fundraising for the Beacon School.

She is the daughter of Paul and Louanne Travis of Bay City.

Broadway World notes: "With newly reinvented staging and stunning scenic design, Cameron Mackintosh and Andrew Lloyd Webber's new version of Phantom, one of the most successful musicals of all-time, is performed by a cast and orchestra of 52 and is making this one of the largest productions on tour in North America."

The award-winning Webber is said to be keeping the cast on edge with his rumored upcoming visit to one of the shows.

Mann joined the company as 'The Phantom' on November 25 at the Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He stars with Katie Travis as 'Christine Daaé,' Storm Lineberger as 'Raoul' and Anne Kanengeiser as 'Madame Giry.'

David Benoit returns to the role of 'Monsieur Firmin' and Morgan Cowling assumes the role of 'Meg Giry.' Jacquelynne Fontaine plays 'Carlotta Giudicelli,' with Edward Staudenmayer as 'Monsieur André' and Frank Viveros as 'Ubaldo Piangi.'

Recording artist Chris Mann had his breakout turn on NBC's "The Voice." In 2012, he released his debut solo album "Roads" and followed with his PBS Concert "Chris Mann In Concert: A Mann For All Seasons."

This new production of The Phantom of the Opera is directed by Laurence Connor (the 25th Anniversary production of LES MISERABLES now on Broadway) with choreography by Scott Ambler, set design by Paul Brown, Tony Award-winning original costume design by Maria Björnson, lighting design by Tony Award-winner Paule Constable, sound design by Mick Potter and musical supervision by John Rigby.

The production is overseen by Matthew Bourne and Cameron Mackintosh. The Phantom of the Opera has music by Andrew Lloyd Webber; lyrics are by Charles Hart (with additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe) and the book is by Richard Stilgoe and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Orchestrations are by David Cullen and Andrew Lloyd Webber. ###
