Mark D. Litten, new Bay Future, Inc., leader.

Mark D. Litten, Huron, Ohio, economic developer is the new president/CEO of Bay Future, Inc., the county-wide economic development organization has announced.

Bay Future is responsible for business retention, expansion, and attraction for Bay County.

Litten, 54, was selected through a four month national search process.

Litten said the opportunities associated with the high quality of life in the region, the community's energy, and current developments were attractive factors in accepting the position.

"I was born and raised in Ohio, so the decision to apply and ultimately accept the position was not one that I took lightly. But the opportunity to live, work, and play in Bay County and the Great Lakes Bay Region and to be a part of this growing community was a huge factor in that decision."

"After having visited Bay County with my wife, Robin, and having received such a warm welcome, I knew this was where I belonged," Litten added.

The native Ohioan earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, OH in 1982 and received a master of science in administration from the University of Dayton in 1991.

Litten has been a Ohio high school basketball official since 1983, officiating high school and small college (D-III) boys/men's games.

Litten most recently worked as an economic development executive with the Greater Erie County Marketing Group (GEM)/Erie County Economic Development Corp. based in Sandusky, OH.

In his tenure as Executive Director, Litten and GEM were responsible for key projects such as the attraction of Kalahari Resort & Convention Center, a $200 million investment that brought more than 1,500 new jobs.

Litten also successfully led the organization through a 5-year Capital Fundraising Campaign that improved the organization's national visibility, confirmed when it was recognized by Site Selection Magazine as a "Top 10 Economic Development Group" for North America.

Jeff Mayes, chairman of the Bay Future, Inc. board of directors, said Litten's ability made him the most qualified candidate for the position. "His twenty plus years of experience, his ability to attract and retain business, and his ability to facilitate collaboration, were all major factors in the board approving his appointment to the position," Mayes said. Litten will officially begin his duties January 5.

Established in 2004, Bay Future, Inc. is a public-private alliance of government, business and other organizations that support economic growth in Bay County and the Great Lakes Bay Region. Bay Future, Inc. is dedicated to facilitating economic development strategies that promote and secure opportunities for business retention, growth, and the attraction of new industries that create quality jobs for community residents. # #
