MONEY GAMES: Is Dallas Dominance Symbolic of Fabric of Corruption?

There was no way the blue collar hard scrabble Detroit Lions were going to be allowed to come out of Cowboy's Stadium with a win.

The controversial no-call on an obvious pass interference by the Dallas Cowboys against the Detroit Lions last Sunday isn't going away anytime soon.

There was no way the blue collar hard scrabble Detroit Lions were going to be allowed to come out of Cowboy's Stadium with a win in a wild card playoff game with a lucrative Super Bowl potentially hanging in the balance.

The reverberations will be going on for years, long after 305 pound Detroit defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh stops sobbing in genuine anguish over a once in a lifetime opportunity callously and unjustly snatched away.

And long after video of a red-clad Chris Christie celebrating with Jerry Jones and his posse of Texas oil barons in the Cowboys sky box has turned to dust. Barked the Daily Beast: "Jerry Jones represents the worst qualities about the one percent. I mean, if you were casting a villain, he'd be on your short list."

And many miles after the firing of NFL chief of referees Dean Blandino is faded into the rear view mirror.

The bigger lesson to be learned here is that money equals power, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

We all know the mantra about the Golden Rule -- those who have the Gold Rule.

And that perception is reality: if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck. If it looks like corruption and inside dealing, it must be that.

It can't be explained away with a slick-tongued television interview or tortured logic, as Blandino tried to do to assuage public outrage.

It is perhaps poignantly symbolic that the representatives of the moneyed class are seizing increased control in Washington even as something as mundane as a football referee's bad call is debated.

A gerrymandered Congress, puffed to self importance by the wealth of power-mad tycoons like the Koch brothers, struts into the Capitol building oblivious to the peril their purchased status creates.

The code of conduct of the National Football League is one that should be adopted by all agencies of government and elements of society:

"All persons associated with the NFL are required to avoid "conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the National Football League." This requirement applies to players, coaches, other team employees, owners, game officials and all others privileged to work in the National Football League."

However, rules like this are irrelevant and are shunted aside when the downtrodden attempt to rise out of their lower state and challenge the powers that be.

America has struggled with the "all men are created equal" concept first propounded by Thomas Jefferson so admirably more than two centuries ago.

Given the realities of today in this nation, we probably need to amend that admirable caveat to reflect its real meaning by saying "all men are created equal, except that those in control of money power are more equal than the others."
