Getting out of school and looking for a job in agriculture?

Jim Byrum, president of the Michigan Agri-Business Association (MABA), has some advice:

Most all agriculture companies that are hiring will have their own training programs for new hires, but they do not offer training programs to the public.

"The best thing for a high school or college student to do would be to talk to the school counselors because they can guide them into the area of study in agriculture and natural resources that fits best and can also let them know about companies hiring and internships available," says Mr. Byrum.

For someone who is not in school, they could contact the local facilities in the Bay City area. Jim suggests Crop Production Services in Auburn, Cooperative Elevator Company in Pigeon, and Brown Milling Inc. in the Mt. Pleasant/Rosebush areas. All of these facilities are continuously hiring new people every year at their many locations around the state. Another resource would be your local colleges, who should have a current listing of available jobs and/or internships for ag students.

Also, MABA advertises member jobs in our weekly newsletter for other members to view and below are listed the ones that are available right now.
