While hope springs eternal, that doesn't mean that what you hope for will come right away. Such was the case for the Icehawks Sunday afternoon as they searched to put a solid 60 minutes together for a first win. And while they started strong riding on last nights good performance, bad breaks and a disastrous second period postponed that hope turning into a reality at least until next weekend.

Things looked bright for the Icehawks at the beginning of the game as they went on a powerplay just over a minute into the contest. Solid puck control and good movement made for quality scoring chances but the Oiler defense kept control of the front of the net preventing Tri-City form jumping on any rebounds. While they couldn't capitalize on the man advantage, their penalty killing abilities were soon put to the test. Back to back penalties put them two men down but solid goaltending and a denial defense kept the Oilers from scoring.

Soon after killing off the penalties, the wheels on the cart started shaking. It started with an Oiler pass across the crease headed to the back door player. The pass hit a skate and came right back to the passer. He buried the gift into the net to put the Oilers up 1-0. Seven minutes later, the Oilers got another break, one they earned. On a close shot that Jon Strand made a nice save on, the Oiler was able to get a shot off on the rebound with Nick Murphy draped over him finding a small space between the goalies skate and the post. Moments later the Oilers got another break. Deep in their defensive zone, an Oiler defenseman took the puck off the boards and fired to a streaking Riley Harder. The pass connected and Harder found himself in one on one scoring on a multiple deke shot. This sent the Oilers into the locker room with a 3-0 lead.

The game got away from the Icehawks in the second period. In an attempt to change the flow of the game, the Icehawks changed goaltenders. The move didn't have the desired affect as Wooster kept control of the puck peppering the new goaltender with quality shots that found their mark four times in the first ten minutes. Tri-City changed back to Strand but the game was well out of hand down 7-0. Hunter Krick helped his teammates avoid the shutout with a slap shot just above the circle that beat the Oiler goalie making the score then 7-1. The Oilers would add a final tally moments later to make what ended up being the final score, 8-1.

Tri-City will regroup this week before heading to Kalkaska this weekend for a three game series against the Roughnecks. Puck drops Friday and Saturday night at 8:05pm.
