Horticulture can be a shady business, says Chuck Martin, senior horticulturist at Dow Gardens.
Martin is going to share his shady knowledge at 11:15 March 26 at Begick Nursery, Floral & Garden Center, 5993 West Side Saginaw Road.
"I'm going to talk about the different types of shade that're out there and the advantages of having a shade garden and the culture of shade gardening," he said. "People say there aren't any plants for the shade, but I'm going to go through all of these cool plants, and why they (gardeners) are lucky to have shade."
While hosta will be part of the mix, Martin will also talk about shrubs, perennials, annuals and ground cover.
"I only get 45 minutes, but I could talk about this for 10 hours," he said.
He is also counting on audience participation.
"By all means come with questions," he said. "I'm one of those people who enjoy questions. I talk a lot better if people have questions."
This third in a series of six seminars on gardening kicks off at 10 a.m. with Mark Begick and graceful grasses.
Begick will cover the many varieties of these beauties that add color, texture and movement to garden, from big to small and everything in between.
Light refreshments will be served.
