It was Friday Night Lights, Camera Action and a few games of kickball at Northeast Little League Field Friday night.

Before the night was over more than 200 children, parents and grandparents took advantage of a night hosted by Bay City Public Safety Department, the State Theatre and the Northeast Citizen's District Council.

"It's been a big success so far," said Jan Rise, chair of the council. "The event is well attended."

Rise and crew offered the children a chance to throw water balloons through hoops to win candy. Children also had the chance to meet with Bay City Public Safety officers, firemen, Sheriff's deputies, a representative from the Tri-City Michigan State Police Post and members of Bay County 911, and get up close and personal with a fire truck, police cars, and a Humvee. At dusk, the screen went up and those attending, munching on free popcorn watched the movie "Sandlot" on the major league field.

Beginning at Southwest Little League Field May 20 this was the second of four movie nights. Public Safety Officer Leslie Darrow was happy with the turnout. "This is going great," she said. "There is a good turnout and more and more kids are coming. There is a good turn out for the games. Justin Heidtman, president of the Northeast Little League couldn't have been happier with the results. "It's great community involvement," he said. "We got kids down here doing something else than just playing baseball. What surprised me was the kids organizing themselves and getting a kickball game going. It's neat to see kids on the same Little League team playing against each other."

The summer fun isn't over yet. The event moves to Southend Little League field, 1899 34th St., June. 10, 1899 34th St., and the Northwest Little League field at Defoe Park on June 17.
