Art Dore, Jim Kruszynski and Wendy Dore have announced the closing of the 117 year old Bay City Country Club and the opening of the facility as the Saginaw Valley Public Golf Course.

"The reality is that it is not financially feasible to run the Bay City Country Club as it has been in the past," a letter to the Country Club members states. "These are challenging times. There are extreme cost cutting measures and some hard decisions that had to be made."

The Bay City Country Club was founded in 1898 at the height of the Victorian Age, although its non-profit designation dates to the Roaring Twenties, Aug. 29, 1927.

The club's golf course originally was located east of Green Avenue, soon moving to Euclid Avenue between Fisher and Ionia Streets, now the site of Labadie auto dealership. The first clubhouse was built there about 1902.

Mr. Dore became owner of the club in January 2010 in a complicated financial deal in which he assumed debts of the club. A Dore payment of $1.6 million was instrumental in rescuing the club from foreclosure.

The letter from the Dore management group to CC members states:

"However, when one door closes, another opens! The Saginaw Valley Public Golf Course will be offering several levels in a golf "Pass Program". The good news (actually GREAT NEWS), is that the fee for golf with a cart included will be extremely affordable! Many members that have resigned have cited the "cost per round", as the most common reason for leaving the club. Most passes will be less than Bay Valley, Apple Mountain, The Sawmill and other courses that are offering a 'pass' program."

"The facts and figures are listed below. We invite you to participate in our Pass Program and play the Saginaw Valley Public Golf Course. It will still be the same great course, just more affordable (without paying for the additional amenities that many did not use).

"The Saginaw Valley Public Golf Course will be a completely public golf course."

*There are no social memberships.

* The Stadium Sports Pub & Grill will be open with a ?turn? menu consisting of convenience foods such as hot dogs, pizza, chips, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.
