The Bay County Bar Association needs your help identifying nominees for this year's Liberty Bell Award. The Liberty Bell Award is given by local bar associations to honor non-lawyer citizens who has given his or her time and energy to strengthen the effectiveness of the American system of freedom under law, in keeping with the spirit of the Constitution.

The Bay County winner will be announced on May 1, 2015 at the Annual Law Day lunch celebration held at the Doubletree Hotel. The State Bar of Michigan Awards Committee selects the statewide Liberty Bell Award winner from local bar winners submitted to the State Bar.

The nominee must have given such service including activities which promote a better understanding of our form of government, especially the Bill of Rights; encourage greater respect for the law in the courts; educate the people in the contrast between totalitarianism and freedom under law; or stimulate the deeper sense of individual responsibility to the end that citizens recognize their duties as well as their rights.

Nominations are due by April 13, 2015 but your are encouraged to send nominations as late as April 15. If those nominations are not considered this year, they will be considered for next year's nominations. Nominations may be sent to Attorney Jan A. Miner, c/o 1230 Washington Ave., Bay City, MI. Due to late notice, you are encouraged to also contact Jan at 989-895-4175 as soon as possible to insure prompt consideration.

Worthy candidates rarely seek the recognition of their efforts. This is our way of honoring their time, energy and efforts they so deserve. Please take a moment and thin about those that have given so much. Then give Jan Miner a call so the Bay County Bar Association honor a worthy candidate.
