Roast Beef, sandwiches and plenty of smiles were on the menu for Tuesday's Senior lunch. This was the day for the Ribbon Cutting officially opening the Bay County Division of Aging's new kitchen. Judging by the ease of service, the good food and the packed lunch hall, it was a great success.

The new kitchen increases the work space for meal preparations from a very cramped 700 square feet to approximately 3500 square feet. The project also was the addition of much needed newer equipment to go along with all usable equipment that was currently in use.

Tammy Roehrs, Director of the Division on Aging, couldn't have been happier and prouder of their upgrade facilities and what it offers to the Seniors of Bay County. Ms. Roehrs identified that presently they prepare and deliver 700-800 meals a day to area seniors. The new kitchen will be able to handle the increased demands for meals. She specifically noted that with the "baby boomers" coming of age, even more demands for meals to be prepared and delivered will now more efficiently be handled thanks to the new kitchen.

County Executive Tom Hickner and Ms. Roehrs were given the honors of cutting the ribbon as several Commissioners as well as the other helping agencies and individuals looked on. Special recognition was given to Rick Pabalis, Bay County's Building and Grounds project manager, for his hard work and dedication to this project helping to keep the project on schedule. Pumford Construction out of Saginaw was the general contractor. Besides the expanded kitchen space, the project included multiple walk-in cooling spaces, an office and a janitor's closet.

The ceremony included a tour of the new facilities, information on some of the activities Division on Aging is involved in and music for everyone's enjoyment. The kitchen is located at the Riverside Friendship Center. This is located on the north end of the Bay County Community Center located at 800 John F. Kennedy Drive on the west side of the Saginaw River area.
