The Bay County All Star girls had their backs against the wall Tuesday night in their quest for a Central Region crown in the Little League Major Girls tournament. In a four game pool play format, six of the nine teams qualify for the single elimination championship bracket. After opening play on Saturday with an impressive win over Illinois, the Michigan champs were no hit by Iowa before dropping a heart-breaker to Ohio. Tuesday, they entered the contest tied with Wisconsin for the final spot in a win or go home game. Falling behind in the top of the first inning, Bay County scored in each of the first four innings to walk away with a 6-2 qualifying win.

"Upbeat" was manager Ken Suchodolski's assessment of his girls before the contest. "(They were) Loose after a good pregame workout." Maybe too loose as Wisconsin jumped out to a two run lead before Bay County got to bat. But Savannah Kokaly lead off with a double and scored on Sierra Anderson's double to make it 2-1 after one inning.

Bay County took the lead in the second for good. Ashlynn Meyers reached first on an error, then after Bri Woods walked, Madison Newton bunted home Meyers to tie the game. Woods then scored after Megan Christiansen lined out to second making it 3-2.

Bri Woods would make the lead stand as she mowed down the Wisconsin All Stars striking out 10 over the six innings while giving up 5 hits.

Bay County would continue the scoring over the next two innings as Sierra Anderson doubled home Haley Suchadolski who had singled and stole second before her. Bay County added two more insurance runs in the fourth inning. Woods singled then Maggie Pitcher bunted to put two runners on base. Later Kokaly, pinch running for Woods, came home on a pass ball and Pitcher scored the game's final run on an overthrow.

In earlier play, Bay County opened the tournament on Saturday with a resounding 11-2 win over Illinois. Scoring four runs in the second and two in the third inning, the State champs cruised through the rest of the game only surrendering two runs in the fourth inning before they iced the game away in the sixth with five runs.

The hot bats hit deep freeze in their next game as Iowa no-hit Bay County for an 8-0 win. Bay County appeared to have gotten back on track against Ohio as they carried a 2-0 lead heading into the fifth inning. But Ohio erupted for 5 runs and kept Bay County at bay notching a 5-2 win setting up the must win game against Wisconsin.

By qualifying for bracket play, Bay County takes on Kentucky Wednesday at 11 am. Games can be viewed by going to www.eteamz.com/llbcentral then scroll down and look for the link for The games.
