How many times have you looked at your dog or cat, spoken to them and swear they understood you?

On November 6 through 9, you can "talk to the animals" at Garber High School as they perform the play, "Doctor Dolittle".

The play, directed by Garber's Drama Teacher Tom Smith, starts in England during 1900s, in the village of Puddleby-on-the-Marsh. There, a human medical doctor named Dolittle learns that he is able to speak to the animals thanks to his old parrot, Polynesia.

The result is that he becomes a better animal doctor. With this resolve, Dr. Dolittle and his animal companions; Jip the dog, Polynesia the parrot, Gub-Gub the hungry pig, Too-Too the wise owl, and Dab-Dab the housekeeper duck, travel the world helping all animals in need of his assistance.

Director Smith noted some special features of this production: "We are staging Africa. We have never staged Africa at Garber. It is a very exciting scene." Director Smith is also excited of another "first" for a Garber production. "We are also doing a circus (on stage). We haven't done that before. There will be about 120 children actors (involved in the scene) in order to have a great circus."

Sarah finally announces that she is leaving to her brother Doctor Dolittle, due to issues involving the animals.

Doctor Dolittle is played by Keith Schnabel, a freshman at Garber. "It's really fun, I wasn't expecting the part of Doctor Dolittle. There are a lot of experienced actors here, so I am really honored to get the role and it's been quite fun. The set also is quite cool and adds a lot to the play."

Performances will be held in the Garber High School Auditorium beginning Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 7:30 pm with Friday and Saturday night performances at 7:30 pm as well. The final performance will be held on Sunday afternoon, November 9th at 2 pm. Tickets may be purchases at the Garber High School at 3:20 pm (except Friday) and are also available at the door the night of the performances.
