While the Bay City All Saints Cougars are known for their winning ways, one victory has eluded them through the years - the coveted conference title. Despite a stellar season for the Cougars; they once again, will have to wait to celebrate their first conference title. All Saints claimed second place this year, falling short by one win to Vassar. Despite the let down, the Cougars have their eyes fixed on a much larger prize - a third straight district title in the playoffs next week. "It's sad that we missed out in the conference, but playoffs are much more important." That's what All Saints superstar Adam Pijaszek #20 said when asked his teams' feelings about entering the post season.

As for their pre-playoff victory over Bad Axe, it was a cakewalk for the veteran Cougars. The Cougars soared to an early 13-5 lead, forcing Bad Axe to call a timeout to try to regroup. The gambit only yielded two scant points for the Hatchets while the Cougars gained another six points to claim a 19-7 lead at the end of the first.

Drew Janer #23 opened the scoring in the second quarter with a thrilling dunk. From there the Cougars continued their domination, scoring 15 points while allowing only 13 to be scored against them. Halfway through, All Saints held a decisive 32-20 point lead.

All Saints head coach Mike Showalter kept the veteran Cougars in for the rest of the third quarter to ensure an All Saints victory. The Hatchets fought desperately against the juggernaut Cougars, but their only success was in allowing the Cougars to increase their lead by just four points. At the start of the final period the Cougars held a comfortable 56-36 lead.

The final period of the Cougars regular season was uneventful with the exception of an uncommon basket from senior Ryan Thornton #3. The Cougars cruised to a thrilling 74-52 over their conference rivals.

Despite the win, the Cougars couldn't catch the Vassar Vulcans for the conference title. Nevertheless, the Cougars will enter the post-season on Monday as a powerhouse team, bent on another trip deep into the playoffs. Last year, the Cougars reached the state quarter finals, two wins shy of the state final title, before bowing out of the tournament. How far will they go this year? We're about to find out.
