Michigan's Texting Ban Effective Today: As of today, July 1, 2010, it is illegal in Michigan to text while driving and could result in fines.
The law says that reading, typing, or sending a text or email on any wireless two-way communication device behind the wheel is illegal. This civil infraction carries a first-time $100 fine and $200 in fines for subsequent violations.

The texting law was only 50% of the battle against distraction while driving. The law should have included all cell phone usage. I was recently in New Jersey where all cell phone usage while driving is banned.
