Tri City entered Sunday's February 6 contest looking to come away with a win following two hard fought games over the weekend. While they skated man for man with the Mountain Cats, penalties got them in trouble early putting the IceHawks into a hole they could not dig out of. While the scoreboard said otherwise, Tri City was competitive to the end.

The IceHawks looked to put the pressure on Cat's goalie, Charles Rushlow early but the netminder was strong between the pipes. Half way through the contest, Tri City took two penalties simultaneously placing them at a 5 on 3 disadvantage. The Cats took advantage of this moving the puck smartly before Cameron Dimmitt scored making it 1-0 Mountain Cats. Two and a half minutes later, it was Dimmitt who again cashed in on a Cat's powerplay making it 2-0 after the first period.

Skating intensity increased in the second period as Tri City looked to narrow the margin early. But it was Dimmitt who finished off a natural hat trick eight minutes into the period putting the Cats up 3-0. The IceHawks kept putting the pressure on Rushlow but could solve him as he stopped all 14 shots in the period. With a minute to play, the Mountain Cats would score again as Alec Olson got on the board with what was to be the first of three goals for him on the night.

Tri City was forced to gamble by trying to slip a skater behind the defense to get back into the game. While the strategy made for some exciting up and down hockey, Rushlow remained strong. Meanwhile the Cats were able to add four more goals in the period to make the final 8-0.

Regardless of the score, the IceHawks continued to skate hard peppering the Cats with 36 shots on goal for the night. Saturday night Tri City takes on Wooster at the Dow Event Center in a hockey doubleheader with the Saginaw Spirit taking the ice following the contest. The puck is set to drop at 4pm.
