Who Makes YOUR Life Sweet?

"Friendship is certainly the finest balm for the pangs of disappointed love" ~ Jane Austen

Another Sweetest Day, (more often somewhat snarkily referred to as the "Hallmark Holiday") has passed and I have survived.

For the matrimonially and relationship challenged, like myself, it's the evil cousin of Valentine's Day. The mother of ALL days to feel short-changed in the romantic dinner for two, dozen roses and box of chocolates department.

Or is it??...

What makes our lives sweet?

At the end of the day who do we laugh with, cry with, turn to and count on? Who is it that we seek out when looking for the times to really "let our hair down" and who do we look for when things get tough?

Our friends.

The ones, whether they've been with us our whole lives, or we've just known for a short, but meaningful time, that come into our lives.

To stay.

Quite simply, we know we couldn't do without them. It's just like the Beatle's sang, "I'll get by with a little help from my friends".

They're the friends who make us laugh, share our joys and have been there when we needed a shoulder to cry on, a kick in the butt or a pat on the back.

They are the ones who stick by us, who know "we're a good egg, even though we're slightly cracked" and like us anyway.

So, raise your glass with me, won't you? Raise it high and let's toast all the friends who make our lives full and sweet, EVERY day of the year.

For the dear friends we all have and for the special people in MY life (you know who you are)...this is for you.

If one is lucky enough, they'll have a person that comes along at some point in their life that sees the "No Vacancy" sign, but decides to knock anyway.

If one is spiritual enough, they'll recognize a kindred soul upon opening a door often kept securely closed, and they'll let that person in, even if slowly and with cautious reserve.

If one is wise enough, they'll lay apprehensions aside for a time and allow optimism instead, to be the tour guide of their hallowed human halls.

If one is brave enough, they'll ask them to sit a while and share a cup of conversational tea, without fear of judgment joining the table.

If one is confident enough, they'll allow that person to circumnavigate long standing sentinels that have dutifully protected and kept hurtful foragers at bay.

If one is cosmic enough, they will recognize their universe aligned a bit more precisely and the stars shone a bit more brightly, when that person entered their world.

If one is reverent enough, they'll be awed they have been bestowed a portion of the puzzle to their own essence and will discover rather quickly, where that person fits in the interlocking pieces of their life, and that it feels entirely right.

If one is sensitive enough, they'll comprehend that person has found a spot in their heart that was unknowingly reserved for them all along.

And...If one is grateful enough, they'll never hesitate to take an opportunity to thank them for the privilege of calling them "Friend"...

Thank you, my friends...
