Beautifully written and right on the money. Your piece should be in the Bay City Times. They should accept it as a guest editorial. If they are not willing to use it that way, is there a way it could be an insert in the paper at a reasonable cost. I would be willing to make a small contribution if it came to that and if others would also contribute. Don |

This editorial is right on the money. This story has hit as far south as Tampa Florida. There are articles almost daily regarding the unfortunate circumstances of Mr. Schur. It is very sad and what needs to be done is everyone needs to be aware and in contact with their neighbors, especially the elderly. You are right that if the community knew that he was alone someone would have stepped up to the plate and kept a watchful eye on him. We need to be aware of all our seniors so that this never happens again. Maybe something needs to be set up in every town where a non profit organization can be set up to take calls and referrals from out of town family members of a loved one living alone to be a watchful eye for them.
