July 4th is right around the corner and that can mean only one thing: BAY CITY FIREWORKS!

Bay City has been putting on a fireworks show for over 50 years. In that time it's grown from a typical small town show put on by police officers, to a huge 3-day festival with carnival, bands, car show, baby pagent, King and Queen... whew, it just goes on and on!

Things kicked off Thursday night with a show that any other town might call the "big one". Something like 700 shells were set off in a 10 to 12 minute show. But there's more to come.

This article is just a teaser. The sky will light up again Friday with a slightly longer show in the 1,000 shell ball park.

The BIG SHOW comes Saturday night when everything else goes in a 30 to 40 minute show. In total the organizers say there will be FORTY THOUSAND shells! THAT'S BIG!

If you're coming into town for the big one on Saturday, be prepared for large crowds and lots of traffic. Be patient, take your time, be sure you have enough gas in the tank to sit in line for a while. That part may be a little tiring, but the show makes it worth it all!

Just to get you ready, here are a few shots from Thursday's show taken from the walking pier in the river south of downtown.
